Otis Burd, 72, life-long Nelson resident, died Friday in a Superior hospital where he had been taken the previous day. That he had been since Tuesday was not discovered until Thursday when neighbors found him in bed at his home here.
Daniel Otis Burd, son of Daniel W. and Rosa A. Burd, was born Nov. 13, 1883 on a farm southeast of Nelson, Nebr., and passed away March 9, 1956 at Brodstone hospital (sic) in Superior, Nebr., following a brief illness at the age of 72 years, three months and 16 days.
Otis was employed by the Burlington and Rock Island railroads for a number of years. He made his home with his mother for the past several years until her death four years ago. Since that time he has been employed at the Naval Ammunition Depot at Hastings until his retirement about a year ago.
He leaves to mourn his passing his brother Noah of Lincoln, Nebr.; four cousins, Grace Grandy, Chester, Nebr.; Inez Chamberlain, Chadron, Nebr.; Cecil Burd, Martin, S.D.l and Ross Burd, now in the Air Force; several second cousins and a host of friends. Three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at the Klawitter chapel in Nelson at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon, March 12, with Mr. J.W. Kennedy officiating. Mrs. Eileen Aikin Stone sang with Mrs. Herebert Peters accompanying. Burial was made in the Nelson cemetery (sic).
