Death: Feb. 25, 1944

John Alonzo Burd was born June 7, 1879 four miles northeast of Nelson, Nebraska - son of John M. and Edith Burd. He has made his home in this county nearly all of his life, following his trade of carpentering most of the time. He was married to Adella Reynolds in 1902. Seven children were born to this union. Mrs. Burd passed away on October 14, 1915. Howard and Lewis (sic) passed on several years ago.

On September 3, 1919, he was married to Helen Peterson of Bostwick, Nebraska, and she together with the five children and four grand children are left to mourn his loss.

The children are: John Lyle of Nelson; Edith, Mrs. Carl Worth of Bremerton, Washington; William Earl of Martin, S.D.; Rose, Mrs. I.H. Johansen of Wichita, Kansas; and Adella, Mrs. M.C. Hartman of St. Joseph, Mo. He also leaves one sister and one brother, Mrs. C.E. Chamberlain of Chadron, Nebraska, and Cecil Burd of Martin, S.D.

He was always interested in making a good home, and for the better things for his family and community.

He passed away February 25, 1944 at his home in east Nelson, after a short illness.

The funeral service was held at the Klawitter Funeral Home Sunday afternoon at 2:30, with Rec. (sic) C.M. Foust of the Christian Church in charge. A quartet composed of Winerford Foust, Virginia Ingram, Eileen Aikin, and Lowell Powell, rendered appropriate music, with Mrs. Harold Wood presiding at the piano. Burial was in the Nelson cemetery (sic).
