Corporal Clifford Elwood Burchfield was a member of the 187th Airborne Infantry Regimental Combat Team.

On June 1, 1951, he was defending his position in North Korea from his fox hole. He saw his friend was shot and crawled out of his fox hole to save him, but was shot in his abdomen and killed.

He was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
