Rapid City--Margaret R. (Champion) McClure Buntrock, 92, of Rapid City, formerly of Keystone, died on Mon., March 14, 2011 at a local nursing home in Rapid City.

Margaret was born March 8, 1919 in Owanka to James and Mary (Nachtigall) Champion and spent the first ten years of her life there.
She lived her next ten years in Keystone, then two years at Custer and one year in Lead, and then the remainder of her life was spent in Rapid City. She graduated from Custer High School with the Class of 1938. She then married Clifford E. McClure in 1939 at Custer. They had two beautiful children, Ronald D. McClure and Linda Lee McClure. Clifford passed away in 1973 and in 1979
Margaret married Robert E. Buntrock, gaining a step-daughter, Stella Watson. Margaret came from a family of 14 brothers and sisters and was the main caretaker of all her siblings.
She enjoyed gardening, her house plants (Christmas cactus and violets), fishing, canning (garlic dill pickles), and making homemade wine, which won her numerous blue ribbons at the county fair. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, charter member of the Moose Lodge, United Church of Christ, Keystone Senior Center, Minneluzahan Senior Center and Canyon Lake Senior Center,
Margaret's father, brother James, and brother-in-law, Bob Himebaugh worked on Mount Rushmore monument with the creator, Gutzon Borglum.
Margaret made her name known over the years of the history and heritage she and the Champion family has with Mt. Rushmore. She was known as an outspoken advocate for and against changes on the mountain and would visit with the curators and whoever else would listen.

She is survived by one daughter, Linda (Jim) Humes, Rapid City; one step-daughter, Stella (Buntrock) Watson, Keystone; three brothers, Paul Champion, Rapid City, Richard Champion, Roseburg, OR, and Arthur Champion, Farmington, MN; one sister, Opal Warner, Richfield, MN; six grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, nine siblings and her son, Ronnie McClure.

Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5-7 pm at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City, and for one hour before the service.

Services are set for 10 am Thursday, March 17, 2011 at Kirk Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Selfridge officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery at Keystone, and a luncheon will follow at the Keystone Community Center.
