Birth: 1837
Death: 1914

A. E. Buntin, a resident of this city for the past 26 years, died here at his home, last Thursday. After months of long and patient suffering he peacefully passed away to the land where pain and death will be no more. Funeral services were held the following Sunday, conducted by Elder M. J. Hibbs of the Christian church and the mortal remains were laid away to eternal repose in Fairview cemetery.
..He was born in Boone county, Ind., near Thorntown, October 21, 1837. At the age of eighteen he removed with his parents to Harrison county, Missouri. In 1862 he was united in marriage with Elizabeth Dorrell. To this union were born ten children, five of whom died in infancy. He enlisted in Company G., 23rd Regiment of Missouri Volunteers in August, 1862, and served three years. In 1877 he and his wife moved into the Crystal Plains neighborhood in this county and the family all resided in this neighborhood until 1888 when he came to Smith Center which has since been his residence except the years 1907-08, during which time he was located in Cope, Colo. In 1911 he had an attack of grippe from which he never recovered. From that time his health continued to fail until the 7th of last June when a severe attack confined him to his bed. Since that time he had been a constant sufferer. Death came as a relief to his physical sufferings, December 24th at noon. He leaves to mourn his departure his beloved wife and helpmate for more than half a century, and his five daughters, Mrs. Minnie Miller, Mrs. Lottie Ogle, Mrs. Lurinda McNary and Miss Emma Buntin of Smith Center, and Mrs. Effie Lentz of Columbus, Nebr., together with his sons-in-law, fifteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. He became a member of the Christian church in the early 70's.
