Rev. Albert W. Bunch, 71, of Marshall, died Thursday, March 4, 2004, at his home.
Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 14, at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Marshall. Rev. Don Simmons and Rev. James C. Long will officiate. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the church. Private family burial will be held in Dooley Cemetery in Eldon. Memorials are suggested to New Salem Baptist Church or the charity of donor's choice in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall.
Born Feb. 3, 1933, in Eldon, he was the son of the late Tade and Leta Hees Bunch. He attended Jefferson City public schools and graduated from Eldon High School. He was a graduate of William Jewell College and Central Baptist Seminary. He did additional studies at the University of Missouri-Columbia and Missouri Valley College. He served as pastor of Bethlehem and Walnut Grove Baptist churches in Carroll County and New Salem Baptist Church in Marshall Junction from 1961 to 2000. He was clerk of the Saline Baptist Association for 24 years and wrote "The History of Saline Baptist Association; 1920-1976." He was Bible teacher for Happy Adult Singles for 12 years and was past president of Friends of Library Services. He was adjunct professor of religion at Missouri Valley College from 1999 until his death. He had served on the boards of the Mental Health Association of Saline County, Saline County Historical Society, Marshall Philharmonic Orchestra and Butterfield Youth Services. He was a member of the Marshall Ministerial Alliance, Marshall Literary Group, Friends of Saline County, Friends of Arrow Rock, Historical Society of Missouri, ACLU, NAACP, People for the American Way, Planned Parenthood, Americans United, Missouri Religious Coalition for Reproductive Rights National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, P-FLAG and Southern Poverty Law Center.
Survivors include one sister, Betreace Barger of Jefferson City; three nieces; two great-nieces; four great-nephews; two great-great-nieces; and six great-great-nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Eloise Jane Bunch and Dawn Bunch.
