Doris June Ammons, age 78, of Cullowhee crossed over into heaven Saturday, July 6, 2013 at Homestead Hospice in Clyde, NC. Mrs. Ammons was born September 18, 1934 in Jackson County, NC. She is the daughter of the late Roy and the late Mabel (Ashe) Bumgarner and was preceded in death by three brothers, ED, James and Eulas Bumgarner and one sister, Addie Morton. Doris was retired from WCU Food Service Division and was a member of the Black Mountain Baptist Church and was past president of Wayehutta Community Development Club.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, James Wade Ammons; four daughters, Maxine and husband Rev. Eddie Stillwell of Sylva, Judy and husband Randy Pazera of York, SC; Peggy and husband Eddie Cope of Sylva, and Donna and husband Carl Scott of Sylva; one sister, Thelma Dills of Cullowhee; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and special friends, Charles and Ruby Haynes of Waynesville.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at 11:00 am in the chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with the Rev. Eddie Stillwell, Rev. Johnny Norris, and Rev. Roger Stewman officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 8, 2013 from 6 until 8 pm at the funeral home.

Burial will follow in Smoky Mountain Memorial Park, Sylva (formerly Fairview Gardens). Memorials are requested to Broyhill Children's Home, 111 Sneed Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
