Georgia Governor. He was a lieutenant colonel in the Confederate Army, and was with Robert E. Lee as he surrendered at Appomattox. Bullock, elected in 1868, was the first elected Republican governor in Georgia, and the last until 2002. He resigned from office in 1871 amid scandal.
