Kathryn Bullock Staples of Eugene died Nov. 13 of age-related causes. She was 84.
Staples was born March 13, 1921, in Dallas, Texas, to Leroy and Anna Colgin Bullock. She married Joseph Stroop in 1942 in Santa Ana, Calif. He died in 1964. She married Richard Staples in April 1966 in Abilene, Texas. He died Dec. 30, 2003.
She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas in 1937. She attended North Texas Agricultural College and North Texas State University. She lived in Taiwan from 1969 to '71 and in Estes Park, Colo., from 1971 to 2004. She lived in Eugene since September 2004.
She worked as a librarian and hospital volunteer and was a homemaker. She enjoyed travel, music and reading. She belonged to the Episcopal Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution, and was a volunteer for the Genealogical Society. Her family will remember her for her love of children and animals.
Survivors include three sons, Joe Stroop of Bedford, Texas, Gene Stroop of Austin, Texas, and Jim Stroop of Eugene; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in December in Dallas, Texas.
England's Eugene Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
