Elsie L. Benson, 76, of 15048 Ridge Road, died Wednesday morning, Aug. 20, 2003, at home. She had been in declining health the past several years.
Born Feb. 4, 1927, in Oella, Md., she was a daughter of the late Homer J. and Elsie M. Frey Bullington.
Mrs. Benson attended State Line United Methodist Church.
She graduated from Waynesboro High School.
A hairdresser, she operated the Please You Beauty Shop, Baltimore, Md., and Crane Beauty Salon, Glen Burnie, Md. She also taught cosmetology and hairdressing at Rockville Beauty Academy, worked in nursing homes as a certified medicine aide and nursing assistant and taught computer at Turning Point, Hagerstown, Md.
A foster mother to six children, she also enjoyed crocheting, painting and raising Nubian milk goats.
On April 22, 1966, she and her husband, William H. Benson, were married in Cape St. Claire, Md.
Besides her husband, surviving are three sons, Byron J. Johnson of Severna Park, Md., Harold W. Johnson of Waynesboro and John S. Benson of Greencastle; a daughter, Kathy L. Haines of Reisterstown, Md.; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Mae Baker of Waynesboro; and a brother, Homer J. Bullington of Pasadena, Md.
Service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home Inc., 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, with Pastor Dwaine Krebs officiating.
Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
