Albert M. Buker, 53, White Rd. , Glen Park, died Monday, February 6, 2012. Mr. Buker was born in Syracuse on June 28, 1958, son of Rex A. and Betty J. Daily Buker. He graduated from Thousand Islands High School , and was a long-time owner and operator of Clayton Wine & Spirits, formerly Buker's Discount Liquor Store.
He was a member of River Community Church , and became an ordained Deacon in 2006, being responsible for meeting needs of food, clothing, shelter, and care for needy families in the community. He worked in several ministries, including usher and greeter, greeting people at the door of the church with a friendly smile and helping with taking the weekly offerings, A/V tape, in charge of reproducing sermon media for distribution to shut-ins and church members in remote locations, and Discipleship, helping other Christians to become established in the faith. Albert was a Kids' church worker, ministering God's Word to children and worked in evangelism and outreach, reaching the lost in the community by spreading the Gospel of Jesus. He was a member of the Ensenada Mexico Mission Trip, going to Mexico with the Ensenada Hope Builders in 2008 to build a home for a homeless family in need and also purchased Spanish Bibles, distributing them while there. He also helped distribute food items to those in need and purchased and distributed Bibles and Christian tracts for the Clayton Food Pantry.
Mr. Buker also was an avid Montreal Canadian's fan, loved to watch The River, enjoyed traveling throughout Northern New York and the Adironacks, and enjoyed visiting family in Colorado . As a younger man he was active in Clayton Minor Hockey and Thousand Island Youth Hockey.
Besides his parents, of Clayton, he is survived by his three sons, Curtis L., Plattsburg, Timothy J., Arlington, VA, and Lennon A., Clayton; two brothers and their wives, Michael J. and Patricia A., Cape Vincent and John D. and Pamela J., Clayton, his sister, Debbie M. Buker, Parker, CO; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. A marriage to Jean B. Marshall ended in divorce.
In Al's honor, donations in his name may be made to River Community Church , 38844 Bartlett Point Rd. , or Clayton Council of Churches Food Pantry, 521 James St. , both in Clayton , NY 13624 .
Calling hours will be at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton, on Monday, February 13, from 4 - 7PM. The funeral service will be at River Community Church on Tuesday, February 14, at 10AM with Reverends Charles Costantino, Alson Taylor, and Thomas Augliano co-officiating, and burial in Clayton Cemetery.
