Virginia Maxine Senter Buford passed away in Houston, Texas on August 5, 2010 at age 90. Virginia graduated from Bristow High School (1937) and went on to receive an Associate of Arts degree (1940). She married Utz William Buford in 1942 and after WWII lived in various southeast Texas towns. Following the birth of her first daughter the family moved to Houston and settled in Oak Forest. Virginia was a homemaker who devoted her time to family, friends and her church, St. Stephens UMC. As her daughters finished school, she became a teacher aide at Oak Forest Elementary school. Lifelong friendships were made and a group of the faculty formed the "Fun-fun" girls. This group of amazing women continues to meet monthly.
Upon retirement from HISD, Virginia and Utz moved to Richmond, Texas. She continued working as the office manager for the family business, Buford Drilling Co. She became active in the community and at St. John's UMC and made wonderful friends through their membership at the Fort Bend Country Club.
We miss her and cherish all of the wonderful memories of our time together. Virginia is survived by her husband of 68 years, Utz, daughters, Kathy Clarke (Gary), Patricia Buford and Elizabeth Danna (Chris), 5 grandchildren, Kristi Traylor (Robert), David Clarke (Felicia), Christopher Danna (Sarah), Luke Danna and Courtney Danna and 6 great grandchildren. Services will be held at Cypress-Fairbanks Funeral Home on August 28, 2010 at 10:30 am. Donations honoring Virginia may be made to the United
