The Rev. Lloyd Scott "Bud" Buff Sr., 72, of Columbia, South Carolina, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, December 29, 2010. His death was caused by Pulmonary Fibrosis.

A service of worship celebrating Lloyd's life will be held at Whaley Street United Methodist Church, at three o'clock in the afternoon Sunday, January 2, 2011.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking donations be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. 811 W. Evergreen Avenue, Suite 303 Chicago, IL 60642

Lloyd was born October 25, 1938, in Columbia, South Carolina, to the late William Earl Buff and Cynthia Higbe Buff.

Lloyd grew up in the Eau Claire/Elmwood area. He attended Columbia High School and then joined the Air Force. After the Air Force he began his career as a painter. He and his brother Bill were known as the "clean cutters." He, his dad, his sister, and brothers installed wallpaper for a season, and Lloyd continued to paint until Pulmonary Fibrosis took over his lungs. He contracted for Providence Hospital off and on for 30 years. He was the neatest, and fastest painter of his time. Lloyd's favorite hobbies were studying God's Word and playing a good game of golf.

In January of 1977, Lloyd was born again. He and his wife were charter members of First Church of the Living God, and after teaching Sunday School for a few years, Lloyd received the call to preach. In May of 1982 he inherited the position of pastor. He told God that he would try to hold it for three months, because he thought he might be smart enough to do that. He ended up holding the position until death and was deeply beloved by his congregation. He was often called "A Good Samaritan."

Surviving are his devoted wife and companion of 36 years, Patricia McCurdy Buff; his children, Sheri Buff Varnadoe of Texas, Lincey Buff Teal of Texas, James (Susan) Inman of Florida, Tracey Buff of West Columbia, Tonya Buff Rivers of Lexington, Tammy (Mark) Hendrix of Lexington, Lloyd Scott Buff Jr. of West Columbia, Lois (Michael) Arnett of Lexington, Thomas (Tina) Bessinger Jr. of Swansea, Michael Troy Buff of West Columbia, Johnny (Jackie) Hyatt of Columbia, Tara Buff Shirey of West Columbia, and Ashley (Michael) Manley of Columbia; 22 grandchildren with one on the way; three great-grandchildren; brothers, William (Doris) Buff Jr. of Columbia, Ronald (Rebecca) Buff of West Columbia, Walter Raymond Buff of Gaston; and sister, Cynthia Buff Stone of Gaston.

He was predeceased by his parents, his beloved grandmother, Cynthia Higbe, his beautiful daughter, Lynette Buff, and his adoring mother-in-law, Annie Mae Clark.

Special thanks goes to Lloyd's neighbor, Whaley Street United Methodist Church, for the use of their beautiful sanctuary as a place for the service.

Lloyd was an inspiration to many people, and his faith in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, assured Lloyd that God would never fail him. He will be greatly missed, but his family takes comfort in knowing that he who believes in Jesus, "though he die, yet shall he live." (John 11:25-26) All glory be to God
