E. C. Buerstatte Dies Suddenly
Edward C. Buerstatte, 38, active in Boy Scout, church and lodge circles in Manitowoc for many years, collapsed while officiating in special degree work at the Masonic Temple Friday night. He died early this morning at the Holy Family hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian church, with the Rev. C. H. Phipps officiating. There will be Masonic rites at the grave in Evergreen cemetery.
Mr. Buerstatte, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Buerstatte, was born in this city in 1909. He was graduated from the first ward school and was a member of the 1928 class at Lincoln high school. He enrolled at the Milwaukee School of Engineering where he was graduated and was a member of Epsilon Phi Epsilon fraternity.
Founded Own Shop
Returning to Manitowoc, he was associated with his father in the electrical department of the F. C. Buerstatte company and during the last war was in charge of the electrical supply department of the Manitowoc ShipBuilding company. Later he founded the Edward Buerstatte Service, with a shop adjoining his residence at 847 North 18th street.
Mr. Buerstatte has been identified with Scouting since 1922, when he became a Scout. He was awarded the Eagle rank in 1936 and served as Scoutmaster of Troop 10 from 1932 through 1938. At various times he served as a member of the camping, training, and health and safety committees of the scout organization.
Given Scouter's Key
He was named a member of the commissioner's staff in 1943 and received the veterans rank in 1936. He was a third degree member of the Order of the Arrow and following completion of 13 courses in scouting was awarded the Scoutmaster's key in 1938. He was paid special recognition by the Scouts organization, being presented with a gold watch.
Mr. Buerstatte was a member of the First Presbyterian church and taught classes in the Sunday school for a number of years. Recently he was chosen superintendent of the Sunday school. He was also active in Masonic circles and was a member of the Blue lodge and the Chapter.
In 1934 he married Miss Ruth Pasewalk. She survives with a daughter, Gail. His father, Charles, died last April.
