Husband of Virginia W. Buckner
Roy Brake Buckner, age 92 of Cumberland Furnace, passed away at the home of his son, surrounded by family. Mr. Buckner was born to Ezekiel and Kate McCurdy Buckner. He retired from the US Postal Service in 1988 and continued farming on the same land where he was born until recently. This farm became a Century Farm in 2008. He was a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church for 76 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, Virginia Weems Buckner and Ruth Proctor Buckner; brothers, Eldon, Sr., Eugene, Henry Herbert, William, and McCurdy Buckner; sisters, Clemmie Williams and Kathleen Brake. He is also survived by his sons, Philip (Sandy) Buckner and Jerry (Bonnie) Buckner; daughter, Jeanette (Gray) Yates, all of Cumberland Furnace. Sister-in-law, Evvie Buckner of Greenbrier. Nine grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Visitation with the family will be 2-8 PM on Sunday, Nov. 16th, at the Dickson Funeral Home. Visitation on Monday, Nov. 17th, will be from the Mt. Zion Methodist Church in Cunningham. Funeral will take place beginning at 11 AM with Rev. Melvin Brooks, and Rev. William Buckner officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Active pall bearers include Grady Yates, Chris, Ben, Sam and Terry Buckner, Mike and Mark Proctor, and Joe Brown. Granddaughters and their spouses will serve as honorary pall bearers. They are: Tom and Sherry Lynch, Phil and Elaine Littleton, Johnny and Sandra Dowlin, and Mark and Jeri Blick.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Mt. Zion Cemetery Fund.
