DENMARK, Maine -- Mary Elizabeth Bucknell, 88, of Route 160, Denmark, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2001, at the Bridgton Health Care Center.

She was born in Baldwin, the daughter of Arthur and Bertha Burnell Ridlon, She graduated from Potter Academy in 1930. For 35 years she and her late husband Arthur Bucknell, who died in 1971, owned and ran Bucknell Farm in Denmark. People came from all over to pick Bucknell strawberries. In 1966 they sold the farm to their sons.

Mary was a member and longtime secretary of the Saco Valley Fish and Game, a member of Mount Moriah Chapter O.E.S., the Rebecahs, and the Denmark Extension. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, hooking rugs and especially hunting and fishing.

She is survived by three sons, Franklin A., Roger E., and M. Richard, all of Denmark; two daughters, Elizabeth Hunt of Denmark, and Frances Beckett of Mechanic Falls; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be today (Tuesday) from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Wood Funeral Home, 12 Warren St., Fryeburg. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Denmark Congregational Church with the Rev. Greg Young officiating. Burial will be in Barre Cemetery.
