Anson H. Buckman Hurt in Runaway Accident, Dies.
==================================

Anson H. Buckman, who was injured in a runaway accident on East Morrison street Saturday afternoon, died yesterday morning about 8:30 o’clock, from the injuries he received. He had been removed shortly after the accident to the North Pacific Sanitorium. The cause of his death was the fracture of the skull on the front and side of the head. The kick he received in the stomach was serious.

After his removal to the sanitorium, on examination it was found that when he was thrown from the wagon he struck the sidewalk with his head. At that time there was no indication that he had been fatally hurt, and to Grant Bailey, who helped him up, he remarked that he was not much injured. He walked around to the saloon on the corner of East Water and East Morrison streets, where he lay down in a rear room to rest, as he had begun to feel sick. Shortly after he lay down he sunk into an unconscious condition and was in that state when discovered. He never recovered consciousness. That he was not rendered unconscious when he struck the sidewalk shows that the hemorrhage in the brain had not yet begun, and did not commence until he had lain down to rest in the room, as otherwise he would have been insensible at the start. As soon as the pressure on the brain commenced he became unconscious.

At the sanitorium an operation was performed to relieve the pressure on the brain; and although considerable blood was removed, he did not revive.

Mr. Buckman was about 33 years old. He was the son of the late Cyrus Buckman, a well-known East Portland pioneer, who died several years ago, He was born on the old home place on the East Side. For several years he had been running a berry ranch a short distance from Montavilla, having purchased the place. A message was sent out to this wife by telephone, and she came to the sanitorium. Mrs. Buckman, his mother, had been to the West side and was returning on a street-car on East Morrison street when the runaway occurred. She noticed the crowd gathered about the place where her son had been thrown out, but then she had not the remotest intimation that her son had been injured. The funeral will be held from the house at 42 East Eighteenth street, this afternoon at 2 o’clock.
