Linda M. Bailey, 60, of Glenwood Park, succumbed to her year-long battle with cancer in the late morning hours of Friday, Nov. 30, 2007 at Princeton Community Hospital.
She was born in McDowell Co., and was the daughter of Lorraine Hamlin of Princeton and the late Dowell Bucklin. She was baptized at the Bluefield, Va., Church of God, was a former employee of the Mercer Co. School Board and had made a previous career caring for aging adults as the owner and operator of Mamaw & Pawpaw's Board and Care and was former activities director for Cumberland Care and Westwood Nursing Homes. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and homemaker.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Joshua Michael Bailey; nephew, David "Crockett" Michael; and an aunt, Lucille Akers.
She was married to Jimmy Edward Bailey in Sept. 1962. They had three beloved children - Cindy and Clint Christian of Peterstown, Michael and Carmen Bailey of Bluefield, Va., Angie (Cheyenne) and Tim Compton of Rocky Gap, Va. Linda shared her life with five loving siblings - Pat and David Michael of Princeton, David and Rita Scarberry of Virginia Beach, Va., Connie and Jr. Bailey of Tazewell, Va., Kenneth Scarberry of Bluefield, Va., Joann Scarberry of Princeton. She had three other siblings, Jeanie Clark, Barbara Sarver and Edith Blankenship, who were last known to reside in Bluefield, Va., Wytheville and North Carolina respectively. Eight grandchildren - Tiffany Nigro and husband Michael, Alise Bailey, Corey and Autumn Palmer, Vince Christian, Erik Compton, Chassity Compton, Cody Compton and Gracie Compton; host of special nieces and nephews - Robert Michael, Daniel Bradley, Donald Bradley, Tracy Melvin, Jennifer Swartz, Tracy Payne, Melissa Docsher, Laura Peterson and Tiffany Scarberry.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 3, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Dudley Memorial Chapel in Bluefield, Va., with Daniel Bradley officiating. Consistent with her wishes, following the services she will be cremated.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1816 Jefferson St., Bluefield, WV 24701.
Friends may call today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield, Va.
Cremated, Location of ashes is unknown.
