Ellen G. Buckley, 100, a lifelong area resident, died Thursday, June 4, 2009 at Sharon Health Care Center in Sharon, CT. Mrs. Buckley was a registered nurse at Sharon Hospital in Sharon, CT for 10 years retiring in 1974. Born May 13, 1909 in Millerton, NY, she was the daughter of the late John and Nellie Dempsey Greene. She was a graduate of St. Luke's Nursing School in New York City. From 1942 to 1946 during World War II, she served in the U.S. Army Nursing Corps. On June 29, 1952 in South Amenia, NY, she married Horton Buckley who died in 1973. Mrs. Buckley is survived by five nieces, Joan Smith, Michelle DiChristina, Sandra Greene, Patricia Greene Forward and Lorraine Wheeler; three nephews, John, Robert and David Greene; several great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by four brothers, Robert, John, Douglas and David Greene and a nephew, Douglas Greene. Burial with military honors will follow at Amenia Island Cemetery.
