SOMERSET, MA – Alfred S. Buckley, Jr., 82, entered into eternal rest Monday, October 4, 2010, after a courageous battle with leukemia. Born in Fall River, MA, the son of the late Alfred S. Buckley, Sr., and the late Catherine Mae (Morrissey) Buckley, he was the beloved husband of Eleanor (Shea) Buckley, with whom he shared a forty-five year marriage.
A 1946 graduate of BMC Durfee High School, Mr. Buckley served his country during the Korean War with the United States Army. After the war, Mr. Buckley went on to graduate magna cum laude from Bryant College with a bachelor of science degree in accounting in 1955. While at Bryant, he received the Rhode Island Society of CPAs and the Golden Medal awards. He worked as an accountant with Christiansen & Company in Woonsocket, RI, for many years, becoming a partner in the firm. The company later merged with Ernst & Whinney and then later was known as Ernst & Young. Alfred was the last partner to retire from Ernst & Whinney in 1988. He then worked for the George C. Moore Company in Westerly, RI, as a vice president for ten years and retired from the company in 1998.
Alfred was a member of the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour in Somerset, the Bryant Alumni Association, the Rhode Island CPA Society, and the Bakers Beach Association. His favorite past-times were swimming and walking on the beach. He was an avid genealogist and created many family trees for family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife, Alfred is survived by his son, Andrew T. Buckley and his wife Amanda of Santa Fe, NM; his daughter, Sara K. Buckley Mullen and her husband Paul of Manhattan; a grandson, Connor Zedekiah Mullen; and several cousins.
A funeral Mass with Requiem Eucharist will be held Friday, October 8, 2010, at 11:00 am in the Church of Our Saviour, 2112 County St., Somerset, MA. Relatives and Friends are invited to attend. Burial will follow with Military Honors in Saint Patrick’s Cemetery in Fall River.
