Suggested edit: John William Handy, 60, who for more than 20 years worked at the former U.S. Public Health Services Hospital, died yesterday at the Veterans Administration hospital following an illness of several months. His wife, Mrs. Mary Buckels Handy of 340 Linden Walk, survives. Born in Lexington, he was a son of the late William T. Handy, and Mrs. Hattie Clay Thompson of Louisville. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and a veteran of World War II; retirement was from the 100th Division, Army reserve.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Ronald Perkins, Versailles; a son, Gene Ray Handy, Chicago, Ill.; and two sisters, Mrs. George Morton, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Lloyd Young, Lexington.
Services 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Aaron Smith Funeral Home. Burial in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation 3-5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
