Alexander J. Bucher, of Arendtsville, died at his home at 11 30 a. m. on Sunday, aged 73 years and 7 months.
He is survived by his wife and two brothers, Adam Bucher, of Cashtown, Isaac of Seven Stars, and a half sister, Mrs. Henry Harnis, in the west.
Mr. Bucber was a member of the 21st Pennsylvania Cavalry.

The son of Christian & Martha (Walter) Bucher, he married Kate Rebecca Bushey and fathered Milton Henry (b. 10/07/60) and Martha Ellen Louisa (b. 04/22/63 - married a Bream). In 1860 he was a carpenter living in Menallen Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Gettysburg June 17, 1863, in what was then called Bell's Cavalry Militia, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg June 23 as a private with the newly designated Co. B, 21st Pennsylvania Cavalry (182nd Pa), and honorably discharged with his company February 20, 1864.
Kate died in 1883, and he married Mary Emma Lady. Cause of his death is listed as "interstitial nephritis."
