Ralph G. Bucci, 87, of Springfield, died at 4:05 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center. Ralph was born April 18, 1926, to Guido and Elizabeth Tesone Bucci. He was a life-long resident of Springfield, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bernard Bucci; and sister, Aida Petrelli.

There was a private family memorial Mass at St. Joseph's Home chapel, Wednesday, April 2, 2014, to celebrate Ralph's life.

He graduated from Feitshans High School. Ralph was a World War II veteran, proudly serving as a sergeant in the United States Army with the 106th Antiaircraft Battalion, and in the Military Police in Germany through 1946. After an honorable discharge from military service, Ralph attended Springfield Junior College, now known as Benedictine University, from 1946 to 1948.

Ralph married Evelyn Ryan on July 2, 1949 at Blessed Sacrament Church in Springfield. He was an ever romantic and devoted husband. He was first employed as stockbroker in 1948. Ralph went on to become branch manager, partner, and vice president for various national brokerage firms until 1987. He worked as an investment officer at Bank One, now Chase Bank, from1987 to 1999 until he retired. He was a member of Church of the Little Flower in Springfield. Ralph served as District Commissioner for the Boy Scouts of America from 1958 through 1960. He became a member of Goodwill Industries in 1964. Ralph held several positions on the board for 40 years. Ralph was well known for his marvelously quick, dry sense of humor. He thoroughly enjoyed taking his wife, Evelyn, on shopping expeditions. Ralph was an avid reader and also enjoyed having the music of his younger days around him. Ralph dearly loved the camaraderie at his volunteer job as a dispatcher for the Memorial Medical Center "Red Coats" for 10 years. Recently, he was also a very happy member of the "Romeos." (Retired Old Men Eating Out).

He was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2010 and in 2013 he suffered a stroke. Ralph was cared for by his wife, Evelyn, in their home until his weakened condition required that he be placed at St. Joseph's Home in late February of this year. The kind and respectful St. Joseph's staff kept Ralph as comfortable as royalty there for about a month before his death.

Ralph is greatly missed by his wife, Evelyn; daughters: Linda (John) Snodsmith and Jane (Mark Suszko) Bucci; sons: William (Jan Olsen) Bucci and Timothy Bucci, all of Springfield. Ralph is also loved and survived by seven grandchildren: Shannon, Leanne, Willie, William, Ryan, Aron, and Gina; two great-grandchildren, Gabby and Isabelle; sister, Gilda Parker and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to: St. Joseph's Home, 3306 S. 6th St., Springfield, IL 62703 or Mini O'Beirne Crisis Nursery, 1011 N. 7th St., Springfield, IL 62702.
