Virginia Messervy Bryson, of Greenville, left this life on Thursday, May 14, 2009 after a brief illness.

Born in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Lois Messervy and late Luder Messervy.

Ginnie was the epitome of a southern lady and a proud Charlestonian. She appreciated the beauty of the Carolina moon, the smell of sweet jasmine, and all music, especially classical and jazz. She was known for her rendition of The Big Apple and the Jitterbug. She loved to entertain and it was nothing for her to give a dinner party for 50 people at a moment's notice. She often said that she never knew who was coming to her house for dinner, so she better have a cake and coffee ready.

She received her nurse's training in Charleston where she met Joe Bryson, her future husband. Together, they forged a medical career that spanned over 50 years in the Greenville community.

Ginnie believed in community involvement and volunteered in many charitable activities. She was a past member of the Medical Auxiliary of Greenville, the Gridley Club, and Northgate Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was the Health Nurse at Summit Drive Elementary and League Middle School for many years and volunteered with the Red Cross of Greenville. Where there was a need, she filled it. Ginnie and her husband were founding members of The Evangelical Institute of Greenville and she sat on the Board of Trustees at North Greenville Junior College. She was a goodwill ambassador with her husband on his trips representing the City of Greenville and the State of South Carolina.

Preceded in death by her dear husband, Dr. Joseph R. Bryson, she leaves behind to mourn her passing children, Joe Bryson of Alabama; Virginia Dusenbury of Greenville; and Bob Bryson and wife, Edith, of Greenville. She was blessed with nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren and many friends and neighbors at Stone Lake, Swansgate and NHC Mauldin, past patients from Dr. Bryson's office and extended family.
