DEATH OF B. C. BRYANT
Assistant Superintendent of First Methodist Episcopal Sunday-school Died Yesterday Morning
Benjamin C. Bryant, assistant superintendent of the First Methodist Church Sunday-school, and for fourteen years head book-keeper of Howe Bros.' Hardware Company, died shortly after midnight yesterday morning at the family residence, No. 221 West Eleventh street, death being due to pneumonia. Mr. Bryant had been confined for about ten days, and his family were hopeful that he would recover, but he was taken suddenly ill on Tuesday, and his decline from that time was rapid.
Deceased was born in Minneapolis thirty-eight years ago, and has been a resident of Los Angeles for twenty-seven years. He graduated from the public schools of the city and from the High School in 1882. He was for several years book-keeper for Harper & Reynolds Hardware Company, and later accepted a position with Howe Bros.
For nearly twenty years he has been identified with the interests of First Methodist Episcopal Church, serving as teacher in the Sunday-school, as a member of the official board, and as assistant superintendent of the Sunday-school. He was one of the most active workers for a new church building, and it is largely to his efforts that the present fine edifice at the corner of Sixth and Hill streets was erected. He was also a member of the Ellis Musical Club.
Deceased leaves a widow, Mrs. Ada Baxter Bryant, and three children, Roy, aged 12, Lawrence, aged 8, and Erna, aged 6. His mother, Mrs. L. E. Bryant, lives at the Eleventh-street residence, and a sister, Mrs. J. H. Book, lives in the city. Two brothers reside in the East, and a third in Norwalk, Cal.
Funeral services will be held at the First Methodist Church Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, and interment will be at Rosedale Cemetery.
