Born to Bessie (Woods) and George Ernest Bryant, he married Ruth B. Graves.
He enlisted in the US Army during WWII on March 24, 1943 at Fort Benjamin Harrison which was located on the far northeast side of Indianapolis. At the time his residence was in Indianapolis. He had four years of high school, graduating from Ben Davis High School in 1938.

Services were July 13 at the Weaver Funeral Home in Clayton for Ernest C. Bryant, age 76, Clayton, who died July 9 at his home. Rev Paul Taylor and James Bryant officiated. Burial was in Amo Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Born April 17, 1918 in Morgan County, he was the son George E. and Bessie (Woods) Bryant. He graduated from Ben Davis High School in 1938. He was an Army Veteran of World War II. August 23, 1941, he married Ruth Graves in Indianapolis. She survives. A resident of Clayton since 1949, be was employed by Indianapolis Union Railways from 1938 to 1941. Following that he went to work as a job setter for Allison Division of General Motors until retiring in 1971. Survivors in addition to his widow are a son, James Bryant of Hazelwood; a daughter. Donna Watson of Amo; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
