Funeral Service is 2:30 pm Sunday, October 18, at Hankins & Whittington Chapel with the Reverends Buddy Pigg and Chuck Wilson officiating. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 this evening at the funeral home.
Mrs. James was born November 28, 1920, in Anderson County, SC and was the daughter of the late Admiral Dewey Bryant and Estelle McCall Bryant. She was a graduate of the old Central High School. Mrs. James retired after 41-1/2 years with Sealtest/Kraft Dairy as Production Manager Assistant and was very active in the company's softball and bowling leagues for a number of years. She was a member of University City United Methodist Church and Morris Field American Legion Post #380, where she held many offices over the years including Past-President. In addition to her parents, Mrs. James was preceded in death by a brother, Dewey Bryant, Jr.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Clarence Millard James; a son, Joseph James and his wife, C.J., of Charlotte; a daughter, Sylvia Smith and her husband, John, of Matthews; a sister, Nora Gadd and her husband, Robert, of Charlotte; and her beloved grandchildren, eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to the American Diabetes Association, 1820 E. 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
The family will be at the daughter's home.
