GALESBURG - Betty Louise (Brush) Abel, 87, of 121 W. Simmons St., Apt. 902, formerly of Abingdon, died at 10:08 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011, at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born on Nov. 7, 1923, in Farmington, to Ralph and M. Vaneta Reynolds Brush. She married Frederick Earl Abel on Jan. 24, 1942, in Kahoka, Mo. He preceded her in death on Jan. 16, 1994.
Surviving are one son, David Earl (and Von) Abel of Burkburnett, Texas; a granddaughter, Terri Thompson of Marshfield, Wis.; a step-grandson, Randy Wilkinson of Wichita Falls, Texas; a great-grandson, J.J. Bowles of Springfield, Mo.; two brothers, Ronald (and Joan) Brush of Galesburg and Wayne (and Goldie) Brush of Galesburg; five sisters, Mildred Jefferson of Galesburg, Darlene McCormick of Abingdon, Elaine (and Frank) Rice of Galesburg, Jane Kinzer of Burlington, Iowa, and Barbara (and Joe) Parmenter of Galesburg.
She also was preceded in death by one brother, Francis Brush; and three sisters, Martha Upton, Beverly Bishop and Linda Hall.
She graduated from Gilson High School in 1941. She was a salesperson. She was also a seamstress and enjoyed making crafts.
She had lived in Galesburg since 1994 and lived in Abingdon prior to that. She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Abingdon.
Cremation will be accorded. A memorial service will be at 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2011, at Mary Allen West Tower, 121 W. Simmons St., Galesburg.
The Rev. M. Annette Faull will officiate. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to the family. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
