Lorraine Christina Balster, 92, Worthington, formerly of Wilmont, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at the Crossroads Care Center in Worthington.

A funeral service was Tuesday, Nov. 2, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Wilmont. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery in Wilmont.

Lorraine Bruns was born July 13, 1918, to Joseph and Clara (Schlichte) Bruns on the family farm west of St. Kilian. She attended St. Kilian Catholic School.

On Oct. 16, 1945, she married Lawrence George Balster at St. Kilian Catholic Church. After their marriage the couple lived in Wilmont. She operated the Wilmont Café with Marge Balster. The family later moved to a farm southeast of Wilmont. In 1962 they moved back to Wilmont. She moved to the Meadows in Worthington in the fall of 2007. In the spring of 2009 she moved to Crossroads Care Center.

She was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Wilmont the WCCW, the Catholic Daughters of America, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the Wilmont Boosters Club and the CCSI. She enjoyed bowling, reading, quilting, crocheting, knitting, gardening, golfing, walking, biking and playing cards.

Mrs. Balster is survived by six children, Shirley Gengler, Prior Lake, Alan (Sharon) Balster and Daryl (Cindy) Balster, all of Wilmont; Roger (Pam Peterson) Balster, Brandon, S.D., Barbara (Daniel) Snyder, Burnsville, and Duane Balster, Worthington; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald (Louise) Bruns, Dead Lake; and three sisters, Inez Balster, Worthington; Eileen Hibma, Mankato; and Nelma Slater, Worthington.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lawrence, in 1971; a son-in-law, David Gengler; three brothers, Alver, Raymond and Robert Bruns; and an infant sister, Marylyn Bruns.
