Earl W. Bruce, 81, of 508 E. 20th St. S., owner and operator of Bruce Cleaners for 45 years, died Sunday, Feb. 176, at Skiff Medical Center of pneumonia.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Jerry Brown, senior pastor of th First United Methodist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 8 a.m. Saturday and family visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Survivors are his wife, Harriet; a son, Charles M. of Newton; a daughter, Beverly (Mrs. John) Daniel of Grinnell; five grandchildren; two brothers, Charles R. and Glen C., both of Newton; and a sister, Erma (Mrs. August) Allen of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ethelyn Bruce.

Mr. Bruce, a lifelong resident of Newton, was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the Palo Alto Grange and a life member of the Newton Elks Lodge No. 1270.

The son of Charles C. and Alice Huff Bruce, he was born July 10, 1909 in Newton and was a 1929 graduate of Newton Community High School.
