Mrs. L.B. (Bunk) Powell, 93, of Portageville, member of a pioneer Pemiscot county family, died at Pemiscot County Memorial Hospital last Thursday, March 7, after a long illness.
Mrs. Powell was born in Blodgett, Mo., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Broy. She was married to Mr. Powell at Hathaway, Tenn. and they made their home there until moving to Caruthersville in 1899. Mr. Powell who died in 1928, was a farmer and one of the founders of Powell's Ferry.
From 1928 until a few years ago, Mrs. Powell lived in Colorado, removing to Portageville when her health began to fail.
She is survived by three sons, Thomas L. Powell of Caruthersville, L.B. (Jack) Powell of Portageville and Alphonso Powell of Denver; two daughters, Mrs. A.B. Merriett of Portageville and Mrs. Sadie Conklin of Denver; twelve grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Four children preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Saturday morning at St. Eutachuis Catholic Church in Portageville, with the Rev. John B. Rynish conducting the mass. Burial was in Little Prairie Cemetery, with DeLisle Funeral Home in charge.
