Thelma Brown Barney, our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, age 80, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1992.

She was born August 11, 1912, in Lehi, Arizona, the daughter of John and Juliette Brady Brown. She married Oren Earl Barney June 1, 1934, in the Mesa, Arizona LDS Temple. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and found great comfort in her study of the scriptures. Though limited by health problems, she served in earlier years as Primary president and as a teacher in the various auxiliaries. In her later years each of her children had the opportunity of having her reside in their homes and through her unique teaching ability she has had a profound influence on her posterity. She loved reading and had a quest for learning. She had a great love for music and enjoyed singing and hearing her children and grandchildren perform.

She found joy in her association with her family and friends.

Survived by her children, David O. and Janet J. Barney, Salt Lake City; John A. and Mae B. Barney, Elberta; Carole B. and John L. Blood, Littleton, Colorado; and H. Arthur and Bessie H. Barney, St. George; 34 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, sisters, Jennie B. (Mrs. Gordon C.) Jarvis, Mesa, Arizona; Mabel B. (Mrs. L. Clive) Hansen, Salt Lake City; a brother, Phillip D. (wife Shirley) Brown, Mesa, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oren, two grandchildren, Lisa Blood and Janalee Barney, and twin brothers, Jerry and Thomas Brown.

Funeral services will be held at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 So Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah, 12 noon Saturday, October 24, 1992 where friends may call from 10:30-11:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.

The family is most appreciative of the special care and services of the doctors and staff of Holy Cross Hospital.
