Our beloved mother and grandmother was born in Standish, Maine on November 6, 1933 to Charles Franklin and Catherine Rand Brown.
She married Don Leland Anderson on May 6, 1953 in Fort Wayne, Indiana and was sealed in the Jordan River Temple on January 12, 1991.
She died peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 24, 2011 after a short bout with cancer.
Mom met dad, a sailor and pharmacist, on a blind date and fell in love. Later they moved out West where she also fell in love with her in-laws, and the state and people of Utah. Mom loved to do and care for others, was all about finding beauty in the world and sharing it. She had an incredible love of music, playing piano and singing with the choir.
Her talent for baking was widely known, her nickname and badge at the hospital was Cookie Monster. Gardening was also used as a way to open the hearts of others with her favorite flowers being hyacinths, violets and iris. She took great pride and relaxation in her gardens and shared the bounty of flowers and vegetables with others.
She was an active member of her church, volunteered at IHC Cottonwood Hospital in Salt Lake for years, was employed then retired from IHC in St. George after twenty years of service. She had also volunteered as president of the Utah Pharmaceutical Association Women's Auxiliary.
She is survived by her sons Leslie Charles (Mary) Anderson and Raymond Reed (Michelle) Anderson and their grandchildren Andrew David Anderson, Carlie Ashly Anderson, and Matthew John Anderson.
Funeral Services will be held on April 29, 2011 in the LDS Church at 912 South 1740 East (top of Foremaster Ridge) Saint George, Utah. Viewing will be held at 10:00 a.m., service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Tonaquint Cemetery in St. George.
She is preceded in death by son Leland Blaine Anderson, her parents, brother Gordon Wesley Brown, and husband. Published in the Salt Lake Tribune on April 26, 2011.
