Joy Benson, 77, of Sioux Falls, died Friday, October 29, 2004 at Lennox Good Samaritan Center. Celebration of Life Services will be held 10:30am Wednesday, November 3, 2004 at First Lutheran Church. Visitation will begin 1:00pm Tuesday, November 2, 2004 with family present from 6:00pm to 7:30pm at Miller Funeral Home 13th & Main. Joy J. Brown was born February 14, 1927 in Evansville, IN to Owen and Dona (Clayton) Brown. She grew up and attended school in Evansville, IN graduating from Evansville High School. Joy met Arnold Benson and they were married in Evansville, IN. They made their home in Sioux Falls, SD. Joy and Arnold raised their five children, Gary, Starla, Duane, Glenn and Laurie. She was employed at Augustana College for 20 years also working for Noonan CPA. Arnold and Joy moved to Lake Hendricks, MN in 1995, shortly there after they celebrated their 52 years of marriage. Arnold passed away in 1995. In 2002 Joy moved to Astoria, SD. Joy was a member of First Lutheran Church and Bethel Lutheran Church in Astoria, SD. She will be greatly loved by her children and grandchildren. Grateful for having shared her life are her sons, Dr. Gary (Allie) of Brandon, MS, Duane (Lona) of Bozeman, MT and Glenn (Cheryl) of Worthing, SD; daughters, Starla (Dr. James) Moon of Concord, NC and Laurie (James) Ticknor of Bozeman, MT; grandchildren, Heather, Sam, Sean, Chad, Benjamin, Nickolas (Jenna), Rachel, Amber, London, Wil, Bridgforth, Stewart and Rachel; great-grandchildren, Mary and Jackson. Joy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter-in-law, Apryl Benson. 'I want to give a heartfelt thanks to my family and dear friends for their undying support during the many months of my illness. I want to give a special heartfelt thanks to my dearest friend that wrote to me each and every week.' Love, Joy Benson
