Shortly after being diagnosed with cancer, she died from a heart attack in the Leesburg hospital just hours before being transferred to a hospital in Winchester VA to begin cancer treatment.
As a young woman she was accepted into nursing school in Washington DC but couldn't attend because her father was ill. She and her husband raised their two children on her family's dairy farm on the east end of Purcellville on Rte 7. They continued operating the dairy until her death.
