Ora Clayton Brown, one of seven children of Newton Perry Brown and Nettie Garlock, was born on a farm near Carleton, Nebraska, on May 16, 1891.
Ora grew up at Carleton and received his education there. He was a 1913 graduate of the University of Nebraska, majoring in agriculture.
For a short time he farmed at Nevada, Missouri, where he was married to Nelle Coors on January 20, 1920. To this union three children were born. Other communities he farmed in were Carleton, Idaho Falls, Idaho, Davenport and Nelson.
He served his country during World War I, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Nuckolls County World War I Barracks Association. They moved to Nelson in 1951.
Ora was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Bess; three brothers and a sister.
He is survived by a son, Alex of Nelson; a daughter, Norma (Mrs. Lee Keldsen) of York; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Dyer of Washington State and Mrs. Etta Dobson of Wichita, Kansas; thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Ora died in Superior on November 11, 1975, at the age of 84 years, 5 months and 25 days.
Funeral services were held on Friday, November 14, 1975, at the United Methodist Church of Nelson at 2 p.m. with Rev. Clair Kess officiating. Burial was in the Carleton Cemetery. Arrangements by the Klawitter Funeral Home of Nelson.
