Richard served as a Technical Sergeant & Top Turret Gunner on B-17G #43-38530, 358th Bomber Squadron, 303rd Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Knox County, Maine prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on September 12, 1942 in Portland, Maine. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Driver and also as Single, without dependents.

Richard was "Killed In Action" when his B-17 was hit by German flak and crashed in Sterkrade, Germany during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.

Son of Alfred L. Brown who resided in South Thomaston, Maine.
