Charles C. "Charlie" Brown, 70, of Roanoke, went to his Heavenly home on Monday, July 11, 2011. The son of the late Clarence and Jessee Brown, he was predeceased by his sister, Katie Croft. For many years, he attended East Gate Church of the Nazarene, where he served as an usher and greeter. Charlie served in the United States Navy. He retired from the Roanoke City Fire Department. Charlie was well known in the Roanoke area for his refinishing skills and antique collection. He loved fishing with his grandson, Patrick. A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, he is survived by his wife of 28 years, Virginia L. Brown; son and daughter-in-law, David and Kathy Hash; three grandchildren, Kasey, Patrick and Emily Hash; sister, Barbara Rodgers, of Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews, especially Mandy and Amy. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2011, from East Gate Church of the Nazarene. The Rev. George Stevenson and the Rev. Paul Lockhart will officiate. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with Military Honors by the U.S. Navy. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at Oakey's North Chapel.
