On Monday, July 4, 2011, Mary quietly left this world to join in a glorious homecoming celebration with the many family and friends who had left before her to meet at Jesus feet.

Mary was, as she would say "almost 90" having been born August 27, 1921, the eighth child of Judge Emmit Curlee and Clarence Eola Gay Curlee. She grew up in a loving family who she adored. On June 3, 1939, she married Frank Doss Brown of the Pleasant Grove Community. After spending their first few years in Houston, Mary sat down and drew a house, her dream house. She and Doss returned to Pleasant Grove to build that home where she then lived for the next 65 years.

Mary considered herself a little country girl, but she always believed in the possibilities. Mary was an executive secretary first at Hughes Tools in Houston, and later with the construction manager and plant managers at ALCOA where she retired after 35 years. She was always civic minded and involved in her community, serving on the Lexington school board for a number of years and participating in community service both through personal activities and financial support. She was a 1939 graduate of Lexington High School and had also attended school in Rockdale, Forest Grove and Tanglewood.

Mary was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where she had been active in teaching Sunday School and was a current member of Forest Grove Christian Church. She was Worthy Grand Matron of Texas Order of the Eastern Star 1977 to 1978 and member and past matron of Lexington Order of Eastern Star #996 where she made many fond memories and lifetime friendships.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Doss Brown. 5 brothers, Herbert, Dock, Alton, Woodrow and Shelby Curlee. A sister, Doris Byrd.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 7, 2011 in the Forest Grove Christian Church in the Forest Grove Community. Burial followed in the Hugh Wilson Cemetery in Tanglewood with Rev. Harold Adams, Gary Roe and Pastor Brandon Navarre officiating. The Rockdale Reporter, July 2011
