Brown, Alford M.
Alford M. Brown, 91, of Kansas City, Kan., died Thursday, February 14, 2008, at his home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2008, at the Porter Funeral Home, 1835 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kan., with burial following in Highland Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Monday, February 18, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Boy Scouts of America or to the American Heart Association.
Mr. Brown was born February 4, 1917, in Kansas City, Mo., and lived most of his life in Kansas City, Kan. Alford served his country during World War II in Guam, and at the Olathe Naval Station in the U.S. Navy having returned home on the USS Yorktown. He was employed with the Missouri Pacific Railroad for 36 years, retiring as the General Warehouse Foreman in 1977. "Uncle Ap" loved gardening, raising tomatoes, and being a handyman for his neighbors. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, and member and former President of the Local Transportation- Communications Union. Alford was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Brown. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Linnie Mae Brown, of the home; two sons, James F. Brown (Janene), and Wesley Ray Brown (Beverly), all of Kansas City, Kan.; five grandchildren, Marsha Bergman (Mike), Raymore, Mo., Matt Brown, Eau Claire, Wis., Amanda Brown, Sarah Gillespie (Johnny), and Jason Daniel Brown; one great granddaughter, Kaylee Ann-Marie; and three stepchildren, Calvin Otis Hatch, Barbara June Thomason, and Emma Jean Hamlin.
