ARNOLD E. BROWN
Arnold E. Brown, age 80 of Valparaiso, passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2011.
He was born December 18, 1930 to the late Francis and Hilda Brown.
Arnold was a devoted grandfather who cherished his time with family. We will miss his sense of humor, storytelling, and strength as the patriarch of our family. Arnold was courageous and grateful for his life up until his last breath. He was a man who followed God and strived to live a good, Christian life.
Arnold leaves behind his wife of 20 years, Karin Brown. Arnold and Karin enjoyed traveling to many wonderful places and taking long walks together every morning. Arnold also leaves behind three adult children: David (Nadine) Brown of Valparaiso, Linda (Martin) Hanson of Carmel, IN and Jeff (Suzanne) Brown of Austin, TX. He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren: Elizabeth, Jeremy, Ryan, Jessica (John), and Jill. Arnold also had two great granddaughters: Veronica and Palinia Reel.
He is also survived by one brother, Charles (Carolyn) of Centerville, OH.
Arnold was a resident of Valparaiso for over 45 years. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, Valparaiso, and then the Lakes of the Four Seasons United Methodist Church. Arnold was active in his community throughout his life. In his earlier years, He was employed by McGill Manufacturing as a VP General Manager of the Bearing Division. After he retired from McGill, he was an Associate Professor at Purdue University North Central where he taught organizational leadership and served as a consultant. Arnold was a past president and a member of the Valparaiso Rotary Club for almost 50 years. He served on the Board of Directors of the YMCA, served two terms as the president of the Valparaiso School Board, and was a volunteer at the Porter County United Way. Most recently, Arnold volunteered his time at S.C.O.R.E. ( Service Corps of Retired Executives), where he served as a mentor to small business owners. Arnold earned his Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and earned a Master's Degree in Business Administration from Texas Christian University, Ft. Worth. He graduated from the Russian Language Program at Syracuse University and served in the United States Air Force, where he was a translator.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church, 103 Franklin Street, Valparaiso, IN.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 12 pm at the same location. Burial will follow immediately after at Graceland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Arnold requested that donations be made to the Lake of the Four Seasons Church, 9100 E. 109th Ave., Crown Point, IN 46307.
