Anson M. Brown, 703 1/3 Maine street, for 23 years local freight agent for the Wabash, died at 10:30 o'clock Tuesday evening in the Wabash hospital in Decatur. He had been ailing for some time. More than a month ago, he went to the Mayo Brothers sanatorium at Rochester Minnesota, where he remained for three weeks. After returning to Quincy, he was taken to the hospital at Decatur.

Mr. Brown was one of the best known railroad men in this section of the country, and was well informed regarding matters dealing with the carrier business.

Mr. Brown was liked by all who knew him, and was very popular with his employees in this city. Mr. Brown was born in Urbana Ohio, October 16 1859. He was cashier at the freight office in Jacksonville Illinois for a number of years. When he came to this city, he was made cashier at the Wabash freight house, which was then located at Front and Spring streets.

On February 1 1901, when S. P. Barnes was division freight and passenger agent, Mr. Brown was appointed acting freight agent in Quincy, and a few weeks later, was appointed agent, and had held that position since.

Mr. Brown was married to Miss Nellie Daugherty, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Daugherty of this city.

He was a member of Lambert lodge of Masons, and of the Elks, and of the Congregational church. He is survived by his widow, daughter Pauline, one sister in Chicago, and a brother Charles Brown in Phoenix Arizona.
