Served with the 80th Infantry Division, 317th Regiment, 2nd Battalion, "F" Company, in World War II. Know as the "Blue Ridge" Division, was part of Patton's 3rd Army.

He enlisted in 1943 at Ft. McPherson in Atlanta, Georgia

Was awarded the Bronze Star on April 28, 1945. His commendation read, " For heroic service in France during the period 8 - 16 November 1944, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States. While serving with a rifle company, then at less than half strength, during the period 8 - 16 November 1944, Pfc Brown and his comrades held a defensive position for five days under difficult conditions of water filled foxholes, bitter cold, and rain, then participated in an attack against a superior enemy force, accomplishing their objective and accounting for forty enemy killed or captured. With but one day rest, Pfc Brown and his company held and defended their ground despite intense artillery, mortar, and heavy machine gun fire from the Germans. The outstanding bravery, perseverance, and unselfish devotion to duty displayed by Pfc. Brown exemplify the finest traditions of the armed forces of the United States." A.J. owned a Phillips 66 in Columbus, Georgia from 1961 to 1982. After that we worked as a security guard.
