Llewellyn Brown Bowden, widow of Harvey K. Bowden, of the 500 block of Washington Park, a retired registered nurse, died Monday, Sept. 1, 1997, in a local hospital.
Mrs. Bowden was a native of Colerain, N.C., and daughter of the late Letha Baker and Craton T. Brown. She was a graduate of East Carolina University, Norfolk General Hospital School of Nursing, and attended the University of Virginia. Mrs. Bowden was past president of the Norfolk General Hospital Nurse's Association, a former secretary of the American Nurse's Association, and a Red Cross nurse serving in the Louisville, Ky. flood. She also taught home nursing during World War II. She worked as an office nurse for 28 years prior to retiring. She was a member of Ghent United Methodist Church and the Woman's Club of Norfolk.
Survivors include her son, Harvey Wayne Bowden of Norfolk; a sister, Mildred Evans and her husband, Stanley, of Columbia, S.C.; two brothers, Alpheus Brown and his wife, Bessie, of Suffolk, Tildon Brown of Colerain, N.C.; and a grandson, Bryan Bowden of Chesapeake.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Ghent United Methodist Church by the Rev. H. Leroy Seibert. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or Ghent United Methodist Church. Cox Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
