Albert Edward Brown, son of Ethel (Johnson) Brown and Charles Princeton Brown, was born January 20, 1921, in Sioux Falls, SD. He attended Hawthorne Elementary School and completed his education at Washington High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on August 17, 1942, and served with the submarine forces against the Japanese in WWII. He was discharged December 24, 1945.

Following his discharge, he returned to Sioux Falls and resumed his career with John Morrell and Co., retiring in 1982, with over 40 years of service.

On July 8, 1961, he was united in marriage with Alice Lucille Reiners. She passed away on July 10, 1989.

During his younger days he was a premier track star for Washington High School, setting individual records as well as running on several ‘all-time' record relay teams. He was also a top quality softball player and became recognized as one of the top defensive players for the era. He played on six city and five state championship teams. Albert loved the outdoors and was an avid camper, hunter and fisherman. He also became known for his cartooning and poetic talents as well as his many informative and factual letters to the Argus Leader.

Al was a member of St. John's American Lutheran Church, Morrell retiree club, AARP, United Commercials Workers Union Local 304A, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and former Moose Lodge member. He was a VA volunteer and served on three city ‘watchdog' groups including TACCO, Concerned Citizens Organization and most recently the TASC group.

Grateful for having shared his life are his sons, Virgil Brown, Kingston, TN, Martin Brown and his wife, Christi, Sioux Falls, SD; three grandchildren, Samantha Brown, Sioux Falls, SD, Krissy Brown and Morgan Brown, Kingston, TN; his sisters, Arlene Thoms and her husband, Leonard, Sioux Falls, SD, Sister Donna Brown, PBVM, Sioux Falls, SD, Bernadette Millard and her husband, Milton, Sioux Falls, SD, Sister Loraine Brown, PBVM, Mitchell, SD, Joanne Salmon, Sioux Falls, SD, and his companion, Mary Carey of Sioux Falls, SD.
