Ms. Miriam Elizabeth Brown Aiken, of Orangeburg, SC departed this life on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at the Vista Care Center in Atlanta, GA. A memorial service for Ms. Miriam Elizabeth Brown Aiken will be held at Sconiers Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at 3:30 PM. A celebration of life service for Ms. Aiken will be held on Friday, April 18, 2008 at Williams Chapel AME Church in her hometown of Orangeburg, SC where she will be laid to rest at Belleville Memorial Gardens. She was born on April 12, 1946 to the late Mr. Bennie M. Brown, Sr. and Mrs. Josephine Brown. Ms. Aiken was educated in the public school system of Orangeburg, SC. She was a 1964 graduate of Wikinson High School, received her BachelorŐs degree from Claflin University, and a MasterŐs degree and Education Specialist degree from Troy State University. She taught elementary school for 32 successful years in the Ft. Benning Independent School system in Ft. Benning, GA. At an early age she was baptized at Williams Chapel AME Church and was a faithful member until she married and then traveled with her husband during his military career. Her parents and one of her daughters, Valerie Renae Aiken, preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memories three children, Mrs. Labrena (Jim) Aiken-Furtick of Orangeburg, SC, Mr. Charles Allen Aiken of Atlanta, GA and Mr. Christopher Allen Aiken of Duluth, GA; one granddaughter, Carena Cristyn-Renae Scott; two sisters, Ms. Patricia Perry of Baltimore, MD and Ms. Sandra Brown of Lithonia, GA; three brothers, Mr. Michael M. Brown of Oakland, CA, Mr. Bennie M. Brown Jr. of Orangeburg, SC and Mr. James Bernard Brown of Hollywood, CA; one aunt, Mrs. Amelia Townsend of Florence, SC; two special nieces, Ms. Marion Matthews of Columbia, SC and Ms. Lesly Brown of Atlanta, GA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
