C.E. Brown Dies Of Heart Ailment Rites Sunday, 2:30
C.E. Brown, 73, proprietor of Brown's candy shop, died at 6 a.m. Friday at his home on West First street after a short illness. He suffered a heart attack Monday night previously and had been confined to his home. He died sitting in his chair. He had been in failing health for several years.
Services were at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Baptist church with Rev. Frank Elkins, pastor, preaching the sermon. Arrangements were in charge of Pitcher Funeral home. Burial was in the Carnegie cemetery.
Charles Ernest Brown was born June 1, 1878, at Lindale, Texas. At the age of 12 he went to live with his brother, Penson, at Newport and made his home there until he was 18 when he moved to Charlie, Texas. At the age of 24 he moved to Postoak, Texas. He was married to Viola Gifford Dec. 20, 1903, at Postoak. He and Mrs. Brown came to Carnegie in 1925 and have made their home here since. Brown clerked in grocery stores for several years and for the past 17 years he and Mrs. Brown have conducted their own business in candies and confections.
At the age of 24 he was converted and joined the Baptist church of Charlie, Texas.
Survivors include the widow,m Mrs. Viola Brown of the home; two sons, Gifford C. Brown of Tulsa and Guy H. Brown of Norman; a daughter, Mrs. Ora Williams, Carnegie, and a sister, Mrs. John Bulls, Mangum. Also surviving are several half brothers and sisters and 10 grandchildren.
Among the relatives from a distance besides the immediate family here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Gifford, Mr. and Mrs. Luther Skaggs and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Schmittou, all of Postoak; Mrs. Joy Slaughter, Joy, Texas; Boyd and Lloyd West, Iowa Park, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. Dewitt Snell, Altus; Mr. and Mrs. George Snell, Vernon, Texas, and Mrs. Trice Epps and her son, Rev. Trice Epps, Quanah, Texas.
