Obituary of Clara Brown
Clara Hoyt Brown was born Nov. 14, 1880, in Portis, Kans., to Rosa Winfield Hoyt. She died April 21, 1966 in Pershing Hospital at the Soldiers and Sailors Home in Grand Island, Nebr., at the age of 85.
On June 27, 1900, she was united in marriage to Nelson Brown at Hastings, Neb. To this union were born five children. The family resided in Clay county until 1934 when they moved to Custer county.
She was preceded in death by her husband who died Dec. 6, 1943. Survivors include: sons, Ralph V. of Broken Bow, Melton M. of Clay Center, Olin O. of Pierce; daughters, Mrs. Len (Viola) Smith of Fullerton, Mrs. Hollis (Dorothy) Smith of Ansley; 27 grandchildren; and 60 great-grandchildren; and 60 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Brown was baptized in the Methodist Church at an early age.
Funeral services were conducted the afternoon of April 23 at Govier Bros. Funeral chapel in Broken Bow with the Rev. James Ferguson officiating.
Organist was Mrs. Ralph Thompson, Mrs. Selden Wenquist was vocal soloist, Pallbearers included: Irwin Stone Sr., Wallace Hendrickson, Phillip Gardner, Wayne Mills, Ralph Glver and Frank Mills. Interment was in the Broken Bow cemetery.
