the tombstone and Catherine Weir in the obituary, but I see from her death certificate
that her father's surname was Weir and her mother's surname was Glen.
OBITUARY: The Manti Messenger, Friday 17 November 1911:
DEATH OF MRS. CATHRINE BROWN.
Mrs. Cathrine Weir Brown passed away at her residence Tuesday night after an illness of
several months during most of which time she suffered but little. She was born in
Edinburg, Scotland, May 8, 1842 and was therefore over 68 years old.
She married James C. Brown in Scotland April 14, 1864, coming to America in November of
the same year. They came direct to this city, and have since lived here continuously. Her
husband died in 1882, in the mercantile business. Mrs. Brown continued the business and
raised a family of nine children four of whom survive her. They are Mrs. Margaret McColl,
Mrs. Kate Kenner, W. W. Brown and H. G. Brown, all living in Manti.
The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock this afternoon at the Tabernacle.
