"The body of Pfc. Martin I. Brown, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs Harold Brown of Pauline street, Byron, is aboard the Army transport, Robert F. Burns, which docked at the Brooklyn Army Base at 10 o'clock this morning. A memorial service was held at 1 o'clock at the base for the war dead aboard the transport, including two other Genesee County soldiers. The Byron resident was killed on D-Day — June 6, 1944 — after leaping into Northern France with members of the 506th Parachute Regiment several hours before the assault troops hit the Normandy beaches. Military funeral services are being planned for Pfc. Brown when the body arrives. Also aboard the transport are the bodies of Staff Sergeant Alvin B. Hettrick, twenty, son of Mrs. Bertha Hettrick of Pavilion and Second Lieutenant LaVerne A, Bateman, 29, husband of Mrs Lucille Bateman of South Byron. Other area servicemen's bodies on board are those of Patsy F. Licata, son of Mr and Mrs. Onofrio Licata of Albion: Louis P. DeTroyo whose next-of-kin is Mrs Joseph M. DeTroya of Medina: Robert F Vaughn, next-of-kin being Fred Vaughn of Lyndonville and William H. Judd, next-of kin, Mattie B. Judy of Perry." THE DAILY NEWS, BATAVIA, N.
